Technical info and requirements

Look at the big picture when considering your IT requirements

Firms with older or non-Microsoft operating systems need to consider their investment requirements now, if they want the best interaction with Landonline.

When planning your investment in hardware and software, you also need to consider the best fire wall/ antivirus/ and anti-spyware software. These types of software are part of managing risk to your firm along with ensuring that staff follow security-conscious work practises.

Technical Requirements

To get the best from your connection to Landonline, it is essential to have the right operating systems and web browser on your PC. LINZ has a specific policy in relation to operating systems and browsers that it supports.

LINZ cannot guarantee that Digital Certificates will work successfully in organisations that do not use an up-to-date operating system and web browser. Some web browsers, e.g. Mozilla, do not work with Digital Certificates.

Future releases of Landonline will enable lodgement of complex title transactions. A small number of e-dealing transactions may require an attachment of scanned supporting information. Please see Specifications for Scanners to ensure your current or new scanner will be compatible.

Choosing an operating system

Windows: If you have an older or non-Windows system, we recommend that you upgrade to Windows XP Professional. XP Home edition has issues with Landonline and we are unable to support it.

For optimal performance and functionality within Landonline, we recommend Windows XP Professional.

It is also important to note that older Windows operating systems are no longer supported by Microsoft, which in turn means that LINZ is not able to access support from Microsoft. In addition, your office security may be placed at greater risk than a fully patched and currently supported operating system, e.g. XP Professional.

Citrix and Terminal Service environments: LINZ will assist customers using these environments to connect to Landonline, advise on known issues and provide solutions. Where possible, within existing resource and capability, LINZ will also help with troubleshooting and resolution.

Note that this support does not include managing the customer's hardware, network or system issues.

Other systems: Other systems are not supported by LINZ as they have been identified as often causing conflicts with Landonline.

LINZ does not support the Apple Macintosh operating system. Other considerations are to purchase a Windows PC or utilise PC emulator software with Macintosh.

When choosing a computer monitor, Landonline displays best if your screen resolution is set to 1024 x 768. There are some screens that require this setting to display correctly and, as more functionality is added, more screens will fall into this category. If you use lower screen resolutions (e.g. 800 x 600), a scrollbar will appear on the right hand side enabling you to scroll up and down.

Choosing an Internet connection

You will require access to the Internet via an ISP (Internet Service Provider). The type of Internet connection you choose will affect the performance (speed) that you experience for activities such as downloading image files and printing.

The following are examples of connection types:

Dial up:

  • 56kbps dial-up connection:
    This connection will provide the slowest connectivity.

Broadband:

  • ADSL/Jetstream connection:
    This connection will provide high speed connectivity.
  • Cable modem connection:
    This connection will provide medium to high speed "always available" connectivity.

For optimal performance and functionality within Landonline, we recommend use of a high speed Internet connection of at least 250 kpps. See also, All about Internet connections. With your connection established, you will need the following functions:

  • Web Browser:
    Please use the Internet Explorer version supplied with your operating system (minimum of lE 6) or the subsequent update provided by Microsoft.
  • Email Address:
    You will require an email address to allow for product delivery and other notifications provided by LINZ.

Firewall considerations

Landonline can be accessed via firewalls and proxy servers. If a firewall or proxy server is being used, it must not block the flow of information from the central LINZ server.

If you're connecting to the Internet via a company firewall or proxy server, talk to your IT advisor on how access can be best achieved to our secure site. In order to access Landonline via a Firewall or proxy server you will need to configure your servers.

LINZ is unable to assist with technical issues associated with firewalls and proxy servers. You will need to refer any problems to your IT advisor.

Software for using Landonline

The software you will need to use for Landonline is available in Software Downloads in the Sign-Up section of Landonline.

Before installing any software, it is recommended that you or your IT support staff browse the Technical section of our website to ensure that your current IT environment is able to run Landonline. This section also includes additional setup information for thin-on-thin environments.

Other support

Adobe Acrobat Reader

LINZ does not support Adobe Acrobat Reader. There is a link on our website to download this software but if you have any issues, you will need to see your IT support people.

Printing

We are able to assist you with viewing the image preview. However, we are not able to assist with printing or other functions beyond this point. Your IT support staff are in the best position to assist if you run into problems.
