During pre-validation, Landonline runs tests to check that each cadastral survey dataset (CSD) is compliant with the Surveyor-General's Rules for Cadastral Surveys.
Landonline uses the same automated business rules that LINZ staff use when an e-survey is being processed for approval, to ensure e-survey users have control of quality.
The results of these tests are listed in the 'Adjustment Report' section of the Pre-validation report. The 'Adjustment Report' outlines the rules that have identified potential issues and their level of severity, along with the rules that have run without identifying conflict.
Where issues are identified, they should be addressed before lodgement to ensure streamlined processing and prompt approval and alleviate the need for a requisition to be issued.
Pre-validation Report Explanation
For an explanation on the e-survey Pre-validation report, see Landonline Pre-validation Report Explanation - (pdf 295KB).
This document provides a definition of report item categories, explains the structure of the report and describes the Y (Cadastral Survey Integrity) rules, C (Cadastral e-survey) rules, and P (Plan Layout) rules. The rule descriptions also provide an indication of message severity and typical user intervention required per failure type.

Accuracy Rules Tests run during Pre-validation of CSDs
For information about the accuracy-related business rule tests that are run as part of the CSD pre-validation process, see Accuracy Rule Tests run during Pre-validation of CSDs - pdf 656KB).
The business rule tests are designed to ensure that CSD complies with the Surveyor-General's Rules. This document focuses on information provided in the Adjustment Report section of the Pre-validation Report and provides details on the following topics:
- Survey accuracy and business rule tests for these rules:
- C068 – Distance between witness and boundary marks
- C182 – Internal consistency check
- C184 – Full/Partial SDC check
- C185 – Underlying survey check
- Adjustment errors and warnings
- Rule tests
- Design vs. implementation examples (Appendix A)
- Observation accuracy estimates for CSDs (Appendix B)
(Note: The Accuracy Rules Tests document should be read in conjunction with the document above, Pre-validation Report Explanation.)
The e-survey User Guide contains step by step instructions on how the pre-validation process works.
