This website has been designed and implemented to be as accessible as possible. Development has taken into account the World Wide Web Consortium's Accessibility Initiative, and Section Six of the New Zealand Government's Web Guidelines.
Standards Compliance
- All pages on this site validate as HTML 4.01 Transitional
- All pages on this site use structured semantic markup. H1 tags are used for main titles, H2 tags for subtitles. For example, on this page, JAWS users can skip to the next section within the accessibility statement by pressing ALT+INSERT+2.
Access Keys
Access keys are potentially useful for people who have difficulty using a mouse. This website uses the recommended allocation for New Zealand Government websites:
For Windows: use Alt+[number]+Enter to use with IE5x.
Netscape 6x: just use Alt+[number].
Macintosh: same as above but use Ctrl instead of Alt.

Skip Navigation
To skip navigation to content:
- This site allows users to skip directly to the main content for the page.
- Using the [ Access key allows easier keyboard-based navigation around the site, and saves those who tab through the site navigation having to go through all navigation options on each page.
Visual Design
This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.
This site uses
only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option
in visual browsers. You can adjust the size of the font through your browser's
menu — in Internet Explorer, click on the View button, then choose
Text size from the menu options and adjust accordingly.
If your
browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of
each page is still readable.
Printing
This site uses a print stylesheet for printing purposes. This allows a page
to be printed straight from the browser in a "print-friendly" manner.
Only
the main content from the page will be printed — the top banner and
navigation links and images will not be printed.
Note that the print
stylesheet will only be recognised in version 5 browsers and above.
