SURVEY PURPOSE

With hard copy surveys, LINZ staff determine the survey type (LT/DP, SO or ML) dataset type (survey, compiled or computed) and survey purpose on lodgement of the survey and entry of the transaction into Landonline. In Landonline Stage Two, the surveyor will need to define these attributes when creating an e-survey transaction online.

The Survey User Guide provides a table which briefly describes all the survey purposes available in Landonline, the survey types and dataset types applicable to them, the general usage of such surveys, and the use to which this information can be put for future survey and legal purposes.

One point to note for the Record Purposes Only surveys is that only header data and images should be submitted. The survey must not include structured observation and mark data even if such data is part of the survey. If this information is included and the e-survey was inadvertently approved in this form, the marks and observations would appear in Landonline as authoritative survey information and might incorrectly or inadvertently be adopted in other surveys.
