PLACEHOLDERSIf the e-survey overlies less accurate data it is possible marks identified by Landonline will appear out of position relative to the new survey data. This can result in the underlying data being on the wrong side of new boundary points or new boundary lines appearing to incorrectly cross an existing boundary line. To force the new points to be in the correct position in relation to the underlying data a Placeholder can be used. A Placeholder is a temporary point inserted in the Spatial Display in roughly the right place that a mark, and its associated observations, can be linked to. The new mark in the e-survey that appears in the incorrect position relative to the underlying data is linked to the Placeholder. It forces the spatial position of the new mark to the position of the Placeholder, without altering the details captured for the observations in the e-survey. Using Placeholders temporarily distorts the view of the e-survey. While they behave like underlying marks, Placeholders are not added to the underlying data in Landonline. After approval of the survey, LINZ adjusts all new and existing marks and lines so they appear in the correct position. IMPORTANT: If all underlying marks are dimensioned in your new e-survey, placeholders will not generally be required as all marks will plot in their correct relationship to each other. |
