REGULATORY STRUCTURE

The position of Registrar-General of Land is preserved through these statutory changes. The position of District Land Registrar was removed in 1998. This was part of the change to a one-business approach throughout LINZ. The individuals who were formerly District Land Registrars became Regional Regulatory Titles staff and reported to the Regional Manager in their particular region. These people now hold the office of Senior Regulatory Adviser and report to the Registrar-General of Land. They will form part of the team that audits both the office and practitioners for compliance with the Land Transfer Act and RGL standards. Their location will not change and they will continue to maintain a close liaison with the District Law Societies in the regions. The Senior Advisers will support the Registrar-General of Land in maintaining a consistent regulatory environment for land titles processing. Their role also includes providing technical rulings and titles advice with regard to standards and legislation to LINZ and external customers.
