CERTIFICATIONS

Identity

Reasonable steps must be taken to confirm identity of the person giving authority. The Registrar has not issued any requirements in this regard, however due care must be taken to ensure the conveyancer's client is who they say they are. Photographic identification from a reliable source would seem to be a reasonable method to employ here. Again, the New Zealand Law Society is issuing guidelines to specify what it considers is sufficient for this purpose. The Registrar-General of Land is also specifying requirements that ensure satisfaction of this obligation.
