e-survey

Landonline e-survey allows surveyors to digitally prepare and submit cadastral surveys directly with LINZ from their own office using the Landonline workspace. This takes away the requirement for paper lodgement. e-survey has all the functionality of e-search plus, which includes title and spatial searching.

For surveyors, the move to 100% electronic lodgement means that paper survey plans can be lodged with LINZ only up to 1 September 2007. Thereafter, all survey plans can only be lodged with LINZ electronically through Landonline e-survey.

With LandXML enabled survey software, your survey data can be transferred directly into Landonline.

How it works

Using LandXML enabled survey software allows surveys to be created without needing to rekey data into the Landonline capture screens.

Once in Landonline, your e-survey can be finalised and pre-validated to meet required standards before it's submitted to LINZ. Pre-validation dramatically reduces the risk of requisition by checking your e-survey data for compliance with the Surveyor-General's "Rules for Cadastral Survey 2002/03". When satisfied that the data is complete and correct, you can then submit your e-survey online to LINZ.

The benefits

Take advantage of the time and cost saving benefits to your firm:

  • Reduction of your survey lodgement workload, through the ability to import and/or capture survey information directly into Landonline
  • The new plan generation tool reduces the effort required for paper plan preparation and presentation
  • Faster LINZ processing times for e-surveys in comparison with paper plans
  • The pre-validation tool can significantly reduce error rates by enabling the survey to be validated before it is lodged with LINZ
  • Automatic fee calculator eliminates errors in fee calculation
  • Lower LINZ lodgement fees for your clients
  • Potential to reduce your overall project time
  • TA e-certification enables your e-survey to be certified by your TA before, or while, it is being processed by LINZ.
  • e-survey includes all the functionality of e-search plus, which includes spatial searching.

How e-survey compares with the manual system

e-survey has been designed to remove most if not all of a surveyor's manual workload. Pilot customers found that e-survey allowed them to allocate resources that were previously engaged in the paper process to other more productive areas of their business.

e-survey follows the steps below:

  • Extract - using e-search plus spatial searching functionality, find and extract the cadastral data directly from Landonline (plans, marks, observations, parcels, supporting documents, etc).
  • Create - this information is combined with your new data to form a new cadastral survey dataset. This dataset can then be transferred directly into Landonline using your LandXML enabled survey software to create an e-survey.
  • Generate Plan - generate digital survey and title plans and title diagrams from their digital survey dataset. These plans replace paper survey and title plans and diagrams
  • Pre-validate - the e-survey can now be pre-validated. This bonus feature of e-survey enables users to check the e-survey before submitting it to LINZ, for compliance with the Surveyor General's "Rules for Cadastral Survey 2002/3".
  • Certify and Submit to LINZ - as in the manual world, only a licensed cadastral surveyor can certify and sign a CSD or e-survey. This is done online, automatically submitting the e-survey to LINZ for validation and approval by LINZ staff.

Getting started

New users will receive a welcome pack containing full details of the training tools, support services, reference and technical help material available.

You will need to invest time in learning how to use Landonline e-survey. This won't be achieved overnight, but using the learning and support tools available helps a lot. Following sign-up you will receive a computer-based training (CBT) tutorial on CD-ROM. It is a self-paced tutorial that enables you to learn step-by-step how to undertake the various functions in Landonline e-survey. This is supplemented by quick reference cards, user guides and help within Landonline.

How reliable is Landonline service?

Landonline availability averages over 99%. Minor interruptions may occur from time to time, but these are dealt with swiftly by our IT specialists. Customers are kept informed during any interruption on the user section of Landonline.

Improvements to Landonline

Regular maintenance of Landonline includes an upgrade to a new version approximately every 6 months. Usually these upgrades are designed to remedy known issues and introduce new or enhanced features. LINZ has a team of business analysts who continually work on finding and fixing system bugs, acting on information provided by internal and external users.

User Groups

User groups are encouraged by LINZ to support users and maximise their use of Landonline. They also ensure user's views are represented through the continued development of the system. Landonline user groups are supported by the New Zealand Law Society and the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and may be involved (to a greater or lesser extent) in facilitating the flow of information to and from LINZ.
