Landonine 2.7 Full Release
In brief
-
Landonline 2.7 Full Release: The latest six-monthly upgrade to Landonline, the 2.7 Full Release, was rolled out over the weekend (13 – 14 May). This edition of Landwrap describes changes users may notice when they next log-on to Landonline.
-
Release notes: The changes to Landonline are also described in technical detail in the release notes.
-
Known issues: Depending on how you use Landonline, you may encounter a few issues (e.g. users may find that the Territorial Authority name entered in the Survey Header of the plan reverts to a number). LINZ has developed processes that allow you to bypass each known issue. These processes (including one for the above example) are available on the Landonline website.
-
Updated Landonline User Guides and Quick Reference Cards: The Landonline User Guides and Quick Reference Cards have been updated to reflect the changes made to Landonline.
-
Parcel Fees: There is no longer a fee calculation based on parcel size. For more information, refer to MAR 839 of the release notes.
- Workspace – last e-dealing highlighted: In Workspace, in the Tree view, the last edited e-dealing is now highlighted so you can easily see your last work. For more information, refer to MAR 706 of the release notes.

The Search screens
The Landonline 2.7 Full Release includes several changes to the Search screens. You can see them on the Search Title screen:
There are a few cosmetic differences. For example, the print button has moved and been renamed Print Search. There are also functional changes, including:
- A new Legal Description Search field to help simplify searches when using legal descriptions as a search criteria. Previously, you had to go to the Search Appellation screen (you can still access this page to conduct more complex legal description searches).
- A Local Authority search criteria in the Street Address Search field, to enable searches to be refined to specific areas. (This will be particularly useful when the street name you are searching for is common.)
- The size of the Search Results window has been increased, and split so the CT column will always remain visible, even when you scroll to the right.
- A variety of Search Results options on the lower right hand side. Details of what these options do are as follows:
These Search Results Options will be available on every text based Search screen except for the Search Instrument screen. There is no charge to print, copy or save a list of selected Search Item results – and these can be saved as Word documents or into Excel spreadsheets.
The ‘Add to Tree' option is not new; it simply has a new name. In Landonline 2.6 it was called the Select button, and was in a different place.
The Search Parcel screen will display another change. You will be able to expand the Parcel leaf of the parcel you added to the tree, so you can see any titles that may be linked to that parcel, as in the image below:

For more detailed technical descriptions of these changes, refer to MAR 733, 1024 and 1047 of the Release notes.
Wildcards
Many of you will already be familiar with wildcard searching, where you can use a question mark or an asterisk to increase the chances of bringing up the record you want. (E.g. you can search ‘Sm?th and Brown L*' to find Smith and Brown Limited or Smyth and Brown Ltd.)
With the Landonline 2.7 Full Release, you can now include a wildcard character as any letter of a search, including the first two letters. For example, you can search for * Trustees Ex * and the search results will include all records with Trustees Ex in it, no matter whether Trustees Ex appears at the beginning, middle or end. This is especially useful if you're uncertain whether or not the relevant title begins with ‘The'.
When using wildcards for searching, it is important that you constrain the search as much as possible by using other criteria. Otherwise, you might get so many records that it takes a significant amount of time for them to display.
For a more detailed technical description of this change, refer to item no. MAR 669 on the Release notes.
Printing multi page images
With the Landonline 2.7 Full Release, the default for printing multi paged documents or plans is now 'All Pages'.
Multi page images are images that extend to more than one page. Prior to the Landonline 2.7 Full Release, the default for printing multi page images was set to 'Current Page'.
LINZ received feedback from users that this process was counter-intuitive; when users pushed the print button for a multi page image, you expected every page to be printed, not just the current one. To get every page printed, you had to change the setting to All Pages.
You now only have to change that setting if you wish to print a single page of the multi page document.
Coloured images
When original instruments were converted into Landonline, they were initially scanned and stored as black and white. This means that any colour on the original (e.g. colour used to illustrate the position of an easement being created by the instrument) displays in grey.
Although the wording in these instruments refers to the coloured diagrams, it was usually possible to interpret the instrument correctly, without accessing the original paper record.
With the Landonline 2.7 Full Release, coloured diagrams are able to be attached to the relevant instrument. The coloured diagram will not form part of the actual instrument image, but will be a separate leaf visible from the Search tree. Anyone searching one of the affected instruments (not all coloured diagrams will have a colour image provided) will be alerted to the existence of the associated coloured diagram by a message that displays on screen.
For a more detailed technical description of this change, refer to MAR 188 of the release notes.
e-survey
Record Purposes surveys
From time to time a surveyor may want to record a field note, maybe an observation that would be useful to other surveyors or a plan that is never intended to become authoritative. These 'Record Purposes' surveys, because they're not part of the official record, should be the easiest to submit.
Prior to the Landonline 2.7 Full Release, you would have had to supply a plan graphic or a marks and observations report. Both of these would have over-complicated the submission process.
Now, it has been made simpler. All you need to do is scan the field note or observation or whatever and include it as a Supporting Document type 'Plan Graphic'. If you do this, only the survey header and image will be approved by LINZ .
For a more detailed technical description of this change, refer to MAR 242 of the release notes.

Grace Log-ons
Landonline prompts users to change your password every 90 days. The prompt comes with advice that you have three grace log-ons available before the system locks you out.
You might think that each new Landonline session would count as one log-on. You've logged on when that prompt appears, so you could assume that you have two more Landonline sessions to go.
Before the 2.7 Full release, however, the system actually counted each password entry as one log-on (as detailed in Landwrap 20). Because lawyers need to enter their passwords for each instrument being signed, you could have found yourself locked out part-way through a typical signing session (during which prompts are not displayed) after inadvertently exceeding the number of grace log-ons.
With the 2.7 Full Release, each certify and sign password entry no longer counts as a grace log-on. However, it is still a good habit to change your password on the first prompt.
If you do get locked out, contact LINZ Technical Support to get your password reset. Phone 0800 665 463 and select option 4.
