LINZ News

New, improved www.linz.govt.nz

Our new-look website will be launched at the end of July.

The website will have a refreshed design, clearer navigation and will deliver better LINZ information and services.

New features include distinct ‘Find out more’ pages for each section, providing a quicker connection with related information, and a new search engine will allow users to find the information they want more quickly.

"Our aim is to make the website easier and faster for users to navigate," says Justine Gilliland, LINZ Manager Strategic Communications. "The current site has expanded over the years since it was created and it was time to make the site work more coherently."

Reminder: Landonline unavailable on Saturday 9 August

Landonline and Customer Support will be unavailable on Saturday, 9 August 2008. This will allow LINZ to put in place a new patch to fix the cause of the three brief production outages we have experienced during the last few months, including the brief outage on Wednesday 9 July at 4.50pm.

As with any change, the date of 9 August is subject to successful testing.

Landonline and Customer Support will resume normal service hours from 7am on Monday 11 August.

If you have any queries, please contact our Customer Support team on 0800 665 463.

Update on the Rules for Cadastral Survey

Following public consultation on the proposed new Rules for Cadastral Survey, the Expert Committee has begun considering the submissions received and made some decisions about the shape of the final Rules, in agreement with the Surveyor-General.

The Committee, made up of survey practitioners, stakeholders and LINZ staff, met in June to consider the feedback on some of the main issues raised during consultation.

Surveyor-General Don Grant was happy with the outcome of this first meeting. “In response to our proposals, the submitters made many good points and challenged some of our reasoning. We’ve come up with solutions that we think address the main concerns of the submitters.

"I was particularly pleased with the Committee’s in-depth understanding of the original proposals as well as the points made in the submissions."

The Committee will meet again in late August and a final meeting is tentatively planned for October.

Michelle Gooding, chair of the Expert Committee, says "While many of the main issues have been decided at this first meeting, the Committee still has a considerable amount of work to do on the remaining issues. We also need to ensure that all submissions are given due consideration."

Don says he will give an update on the Rules at the NZ Institute of Surveyors' annual conference in Napier in October. "While the drafting of actual Rules may not be finalised by then, we should have agreement on the contents."

Decisions made so far on the Rules for Cadastral Survey can be found on the LINZ website. Topics cover:

  • Boundary marking
  • Boundary marks
  • Accuracy tolerances
  • Water boundary accuracy
  • Area accuracy
  • Orientation
  • Geodetic connection
  • Witness marks and permanent reference marks
  • Monumentation CSD
  • CSD plan
