Number of e-certifications growing

The number of e-certifications being made by Territorial Authorities (TAs) has been growing steadily during the last year. In February 2007, 189 surveys were electronically certified – a year later, this figure had increased to 432.

As at the end of April 2008, 60 out of a total of 73 TAs now have TA e-certification licences.

Out of these 60 TAs, 54 are e-certifying. This means that 88.5% of all surveys are capable of being certified online.

"Its great that the majority of TAs can see the efficiency gains by removing administrative tasks such as receiving, processing and storing paper survey plans," says Jan Lawrence, LINZ's TA e-certification Product and Service Owner.

Other key benefits of TA e-certification include:

  • better service to customers
  • time and cost savings with quicker lodgement of documents and surveys
  • confidence in the quality, consistency and accuracy of data
  • easy to use
  • easier access to records
  • allows real time updating of survey and land title records
  • simplifies the survey plan lodgement process
  • reduces re-work
  • better security
  • a streamlined survey process for surveyors and councils.

"Ideally, LINZ would like to have all 73 TAs licensed and using TA e-certification but we understand that for those who have a low volume of certifications, it isn’t a priority", says Jan.
